  1. THE COMPLETE UTOBIAN SYSTEM 7 ICON SET

These files each contain an invisible System 7.0 "icon" file which represent 82 specific types of folders. (Copy, Layouts, Media, Modem, Creative, Media, Almost Trash, Fileservers, shared folders and many,  many more.) These revised icon files also contain special small icon information for use with different views.

These icons were designed for the EJL Mac network to be like the System 7.0 folder icons designed by Apple. Unlike some folder icons you might have seen, these icons still look like folders and have small icons within them. This is in keeping with the User Interface Guidelines as they are not only interesting to look at, but communicate what they do by their appearance.

You may install these folder icons by using the Get Info… command on the selected icon to copy. Next click on the icon shown in the Get Info window to highlight it (see above,) choose Copy from the Edit menu, THEN Get Info… on the destination file or folder, click on the icon in the Get Info window, and finally choose Paste from the Edit menu. (See your System 7.0 manual for real instructions.)

  29. Note: the icons are provided attached to the resource fork of plain TeachText 7.0 documents. Double-clicking on any of the icon files will simply launch TeachText and display a minor credit note.

  31. Troubleshooting:

  33. Icons can not be pasted into locked files, files or folders that are on locked volumes or those which you don't have access privileges for.  You can't paste icons into a document which is currently open with another program.

  35. Some programs will report an error when they start-up if you change their icon. (PageMaker does an internal diagnostic which will report an error.) In addition, the adding of icons may seem suspicious to some virus detection software.

  37. Sometimes the Finder just won't paste an icon, even if it's really in the Clipboard and the file/folder is not locked in any way. This seems to be a bug in the Finder and can sometimes be fixed by Restarting your Mac with your Extensions off by holding down the Shift key while you reboot.
